About the event
This year’s Winter Meeting of the SSHM will be in Edinburgh on the afternoon of Saturday 14th November 2026. It will once again be in the Royal Scots Club, 29 Abercromby Place (central Edinburgh, walking distance from Waverley station) in the Princess Royal Suite. We welcome as guests members of the Royal College of Psychiatrists History of Psychiatry Special Interest Group (HOPSIG). This is reflected in a somewhat extended programme which starts before lunch and with an obvious, but not exclusive, psychiatric theme. The meeting will also include the Society’s AGM. Programme and timings:
10.15 – 11.30: Meeting of SSHM Council (Council members only)
11.30 -11.40 Tea & coffee
11.40 – 12.10: 'Cecil Dunmore Murray (1897-1935) and Murray’s Law' (Mr Geoffrey Hooper)
12.10 – 12.50: 'Voices of the mad- patients' letters from the REA,1873-1908' (Dr Allan Beveridge)
12.50 - 13.40 Buffet lunch
